Do I need to have the same number of bridesmaids as groomsmen?
I was wondering if there is any wedding etiquette around the number of bridesmaids vs. groomsmen. I would like to have three bridesmaids and my fiance wants to have two groomsmen. Is this okay?
Yes! It is absolutely okay to have different numbers in your wedding party! There does not need to be an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen.
What that does mean is that the two groomsmen will have to do double duty during certain parts of the wedding day.
If you are planning to walk down the aisle, your bridesmaids can walk alone or one groomsman can escort two bridesmaids at the same time. Let your photographer know the numbers in your wedding party so he/she doesn’t wait around expecting another groomsman to magically appear. Be creative in your wedding shots of the wedding party and use the numbers to your advantage. You don’t have to line up all the bridesmaids on one side and the groomsmen on the other to have the perfect wedding party photo.
If you’re planning on a dance after your reception, consider who your bridesmaids will be dancing with so that you don’t have one bridesmaid sitting at the head table while everyone else is on the dance floor.
