I was thinking of having a toonie cash bar at the wedding reception which would include juice and pop. Do you think that is acceptable? How will the guests feel if I do that?
From a strict wedding etiquette perspective, cash bars are best avoided. Cash bars will often put off wedding guests who feel they have given substantial wedding gifts already.
It also depends on why you’d like to implement the ‘toonie cash bar’. I know of brides who have decided to ask for voluntary donations at the open bar with proceeds going to a specific charity. If that is what you’d like to do, then it would be acceptable. I would make sure there were signs posted and that guests knew that the toonie was a ‘voluntary donation’. If you have other reasons, then I would weigh them against the potential reactions of guests at your wedding reception.
