She is pregnant, what do I do?
I want to ask a good friend to be a bridesmaid at my wedding. Only thing is, she is pregnant and by the wedding day, she will be ready for labour! What do you think I should do?
As your good friend, she is probably equally excited about your wedding and her pregnancy! Have a chat with your girlfriend and see how she is feeling about taking on the two important roles simultaneously and take your lead from her. If she’s really excited to be your bridesmaid, there is absolutely no reason for you to even think of asking someone else to take her place as your bridesmaid.
Continue to plan the wedding as you would. The only adjustments you may have to make is for the bridesmaid’s dress and shoes. If you are choosing the styles, opt for a dress style that will accommodate your friend’s ever changing belly. Likewise, consider shoes for her that will be more comfortable since she will be carrying extra weight (e.g. a lower heel with more support). Keep in mind that depending on her energy level and ever growing belly, she may or may not be able to attend all the pre-wedding parties.
If your girlfriend goes into labour on the same day as your wedding, don’t fret! Now there are two happy events occurring on the same day! There is no set rule that you must have an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Your bridesmaids can walk down the aisle alone or in pairs and one groomsman can escort a bridesmaid on each arm (lucky guy!) during the recession. Just make sure you share the wedding photos and video with the new mommy!
