The giving of gifts by family and friends is a time honoured wedding tradition. Creating your own registry will require thoughtful planning. Here are some dos and don’ts for registering your gifts: Do brainstorm. Spend time with your fiancé and mutually decide on what you want and what you don’t want. This will significantly reduce your wandering time at the department store.
Do some advance browsing. Some department stores will give you a product scanner, for a short time, to scan what you want into their system. Before registering, visit the store to get a mental map of where your desired items are located.
Do consider the budgets of your guests. Include gifts of various prices, both affordable and decadent, to accommodate their budgets.
Do register early. Register at least 6 months in advance. This will give guests time to obtain gifts for surprise parties or showers.
Don’t limit yourself to one store. Add variety and give your guests alternatives by having more than one bridal registry, especially if the different stores specialize in different elements.
Don’t include registry locations on wedding invitations. It implies that a gift is expected and required. Instead, ask relatives and friends to pass on this message for you. You may also let guests know verbally, if you have been asked directly. Registry locations, however, may be listed inside shower invitations.
